Two lucky individuals recently won substantial prizes in North Carolina, with one person claiming a $100,000 Powerball win and another winning $200,000 from a scratch-off game.

A man from Alabama, Christopher Baker, who visited North Carolina for work, won $100,000 in a recent Powerball drawing. He collected his prize from the North Carolina Education Lottery after purchasing the winning ticket at Jack B Quick on Old N.C. 10 in Hickory. Baker matched four white balls and the red Powerball, initially winning $50,000, which doubled to $100,000 because he had a Power Play ticket. After taxes, he took home nearly $72,000 and plans to save the money for a future house purchase.

In a separate win, Celsa Lopez Paz from Clinton, North Carolina, won $200,000 from a $5 Red Hot Slots scratch-off ticket. She purchased the ticket from Tropicana Supermarket on Southeast Boulevard in Clinton and visited the Lottery headquarters to collect her prize. After taxes, Paz received $143,000. The odds of winning the top prize in this game are 1 in 1,461,660, and three such prizes remain.

Lottery players in North Carolina can participate in Powerball by buying tickets online or through the Lottery’s mobile apps, as well as from various retail outlets across the state. The Red Hot Slots scratch-off game, launched on May 7, 2024, offers prizes ranging from $5 to $200,000, with overall winning odds of 1 in 4.25.
