The pandemic significantly impacted land-based casinos, creating a surge in the online gambling sector. This growth continues, incorporating technologies like e-wallets and artificial intelligence into live casinos. Gaming companies have consistently demonstrated their adaptability, and now the focus shifts to how land-based casinos can innovate to stay competitive.

CreedRoomz is at the forefront of these advancements. Levon Hambardzumyan, CreedRoomz’s senior product manager, believes that artificial intelligence and robotics are the next steps in transforming the casino floor.

Introducing Roba

Roba is a robotic croupier that “performs all the actions and responsibilities of a dealer,” according to Hambardzumyan. Launched late last year, Roba deals cards, collects them from the table, loads them into the shuffler for the next round, and displays game outcomes.

Currently, Roba is used in CreedRoomz’s baccarat and Dragon Tiger games, with plans to introduce it for blackjack later this year.

“The robot does everything clearly – visibly and transparently for the player,” Hambardzumyan explains. “This innovative tool optimizes live casino studio operations by eliminating human errors, increasing dealing accuracy, reducing staffing costs for private halls, and providing an automated 24/7 gaming experience.”

During the pandemic, businesses turned to automation to streamline operations and cut costs. Hambardzumyan saw an opportunity for a robotic croupier in the gambling sector, asserting that “in this era of innovation, the casino needed to innovate, too.”

AI and Robotics in the Casino Industry

AI technology has gained significant traction across industries over the past decade due to its advantages. The idea of replacing human casino dealers with robots was discussed at the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) Asia in 2017. Since then, AI technology has been tested in Asian casinos, particularly in Singapore and Macau.

CreedRoomz initially launched Roba in Asia, as Hambardzumyan noted it is “the region that enjoys innovation the most.”

“We plan to integrate more games and accommodate custom game requests,” Hambardzumyan continues. “One key feature is that Roba can deal cards according to a fixed time set by a partner, unlike human dealers.”

Developing Roba was challenging but inspiring. “After understanding the problems, we managed to find solutions and implement this innovative idea in 14 months.”

The Role of Human Interaction

While robots offer operational advantages, human-to-player communication in a casino setting remains a significant draw. CreedRoomz acknowledges that Roba is not meant to replace human interaction.

“While robots can enhance the level and quality of players’ entertainment, they can never replace the impact and role of the human factor in a live casino,” says Hambardzumyan.

However, robotic technology is creating an attractive market based solely on automated games. “Roba has already assumed a special place and role but will not exclude the possibility of human interaction.”

CreedRoomz aims to keep Roba innovative and engaging, enhancing the player experience. “Playing with a robot croupier can be a new, natural next step in our reality and a very ‘exotic’ experience,” says Hambardzumyan. “Imagine how many people will be attracted by the fact that a robot, instead of a dealer, is sitting in front of them performing all the actions with clear and beautiful movements.”

The Future of Roba

CreedRoomz is not resting on its laurels after introducing Roba. “The automated dealer will stay in CreedRoomz’s casino, and we have already thought of ways to enhance it,” Hambardzumyan says. The next step is to add a camera to Roba, which will elevate video streaming and interaction with players.

Roba was showcased at iGB Live!, marking its European debut. “iGB Live! was a good platform for us to run Roba live for the first time. Here, all the participants and current and future partners were able to see Roba in all his charm and power,” Hambardzumyan says.
