The Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL), Germany’s central gambling authority, has unveiled an updated whitelist for companies operating under its jurisdiction.

Previously available as a simple PDF on the GGL website, the old whitelist had notable limitations. Under the Interstate Treaty on Gambling 2021, the list includes all licensed organisers and intermediaries of games of chance in Germany, allowing consumers and providers to verify legitimacy.

The newly updated version introduces an interactive interface with advanced search and filter options. Users can refine results based on the type of gambling, such as sports betting, online poker, social lotteries, horse betting, and savings lotteries. Filters also distinguish between companies licensed by the GGL and those regulated by the Gambling Supervisory Authority of the State.

Notably, the whitelist now provides detailed insights into each company’s licensing status, including the types and number of licenses held, offering a clearer view of the market.

Established in 2023 to unify Germany’s gambling regulations, which were previously managed by 16 federal states, the GGL emphasized that the redesign aims to streamline the online gambling market while curbing gambling and betting addiction. Consumers can now easily verify the legality of gambling providers directly on the GGL website.

Companies not listed on the whitelist are deemed illegal and unregulated. Earlier this month, the GGL also convened with state coordinators to discuss strategies for sustainable gambling regulation.
