While mechanical wheels offer equal odds for all segments, the Wheel of Fortune slot machine operates differently, as its bonus outcomes are determined by a random number generator.

IGT Faces Legal Challenges Over Wheel of Fortune Slots
IGT, a prominent gaming equipment manufacturer, is under legal scrutiny as plaintiffs claim its Wheel of Fortune slot series misleads players. The lawsuit also targets major casino operators, alleging that the games create a false impression of high odds for winning significant prizes.

Wheel of Fortune Slots Alleged to Be Deceptive

The Wheel of Fortune slots, inspired by the popular TV show, resemble the iconic physical wheel in which prizes are won based on where the wheel stops. However, unlike the mechanical version, where all segments have equal chances, the slot machine’s outcomes are controlled by a random number generator.

This discrepancy forms the crux of the plaintiffs’ argument, asserting that the game misleads players into believing they have an equal chance of landing on any prize. The lawsuit highlights that the digital wheel’s visual design reinforces this misconception, giving the impression it operates like a traditional physical wheel.

The complaint even likened the digital version to a “roulette wheel with a hidden magnet beneath the green zero and double-zero segments,” further emphasizing its allegedly deceptive nature.

Plaintiffs Demand Compensation and Regulatory Action

Filed by four former players, the lawsuit names IGT and major casino operators such as Bally’s, MGM, and Penn. The plaintiffs seek compensatory damages for themselves and others who have played the Wheel of Fortune slots at the named casinos. Additionally, they are pursuing an injunction to prevent the defendants from offering the game in its current form.

While IGT’s Wheel of Fortune slots adhere to local regulations, the plaintiffs argue the product is intentionally designed to deceive and exploit consumers.

Recent Developments at IGT

In unrelated news, IGT recently initiated an investigation into a cybersecurity breach. According to a Form 6-K filed by the company, an unauthorized party accessed parts of its systems.

Despite these challenges, IGT reported strong Q3 financial results earlier this month, demonstrating resilience in the face of multiple setbacks.
