As the new European Commission begins its 2024-2029 mandate with ambitious objectives to support European citizens and businesses, the European Casino Association (ECA) has unveiled its latest Manifesto. This document outlines the ECA’s commitment to combating crime, protecting consumers, and bolstering the competitiveness of the EU’s licensed, land-based casino industry.

The Manifesto aligns with the goals set by the EU Commission, emphasizing the importance of protecting national economies, ensuring consumer safety, and driving economic growth. The ECA’s strategic priorities for the next five years are encapsulated in three core pillars:

  1. Support
The ECA pledges to collaborate with the EU in fostering a secure and well-regulated gaming environment. It seeks to address the growing threat posed by illegal gambling operators and their links to organized crime, offering its expertise and resources to European policymakers.
  2. Protect
Consumer well-being remains a central focus. By adhering to strict regulatory standards and engaging with EU member states and relevant authorities, the ECA promotes responsible gaming, fairness, and safety. Additionally, it aims to combat illegal gambling activities, mitigating risks to both the industry and society.
  3. Promote
The ECA highlights its members’ contributions to economic growth through job creation, community support, and GDP generation. With illegal gambling operators costing EU member states over €10 billion annually in lost tax revenue, the association advocates for a fair regulatory and financial framework to sustain the competitiveness of legal casino operations, both online and land-based.

ECA Chair Erwin van Lambaart emphasized the association’s dedication, stating:
“This document reflects our commitment to supporting the EU and member states in maintaining a regulated and responsible land-based casino sector. We urge policymakers to collaborate with us in protecting the integrity of the gaming industry, combating illegal operators, fostering economic growth, and safeguarding consumers.”

The Manifesto is a rallying cry for EU institutions, policymakers, and stakeholders to unite in ensuring the continued success of Europe’s casino sector, ultimately benefiting the broader European economy.
