DraftKings Shuts Down UK DFS Platform, Exits European Market Amid Business Transformation

DraftKings has officially ceased its daily fantasy sports (DFS) operations in the UK as part of a broader effort to streamline and optimize its business. The company, which has been active in the UK since 2016, is now completely withdrawing from Europe. The shutdown took effect on October 4, 2024, with existing contest entries being honored, and players given until June 3, 2025, to withdraw their funds.

This move aligns with DraftKings’ strategy to focus on key higher-margin markets, particularly the U.S., where it has solidified itself as one of the leading players in sports betting. Despite its strong presence in the U.S., where it commands 29% of the online betting and gaming markets, DraftKings struggled to replicate its success in Europe, even with partnerships like that with Liverpool FC.

DraftKings’ departure marks the end of its European operations, as it follows previous exits from markets like Malta, Germany, Ireland, and Austria. Many British customers have expressed disappointment at the company’s decision to pull out of the UK market.
